My addiction

Image
So they say when you start working out you become addicted to it. Whether it be Spinning, running, weight training. I can see how that's true since you can get such a high after working out that you want to be doing all the time.  Now while I love working out and enjoy that workout high you get afterwards I've seem to have gotten a different kind of addiction. I'm addicted to buying workout clothes!!  Every shopaholic knows about that shoppers's high. Sports bras, leggings, shirts, sneakers. You name it and I'm all over it!Nothing excites me more then when I get a email in my inbox stating "Your package has shipped." It's like Christmas and my birthday  all rolled into one.  My husband just rolls his eyes whenever a package comes in the mail for me. Now when I go shopping instead of heading to the dresses or to the kid's clothing where I found myself a lot lately. But that was more because I hated shopping for myself because of my size.  But no

My Weekend

Image
I had a minor setback this weekend. I ate awful awful food. But it wasn't my fault. My sister came to visit with her family and we were on the go all day all weekend.  There was no time to cook so that left going out to eat. Saturday we went shopping for a dress for a gala we were going too that night. We spent two hours trying on dresses and didn't like any of them and left the store buying a tank top. LOL Afterwards we had lunch at Pollo Tropical. I had their Chipotle Grilled Chicken  sandwich with rice and beans.  It was so good while eating it but I felt bloated for the rest of the evening. I had to put on some shapewear to keep my belly down.  I didn't eat much at the gala because my stomach was aching.  But did you think that stopped me the next day.....  Well yes for at least the first half of the day. My husband made an egg omelet for breakfast before we went to church. After church I went to my other sister's house. She suggested Pollo Tropical ( we love thi

Working at a community college I have a plethora of resources at my finger tips such as the library and instructors in any area of expertise you could think of. So the day before yesterday I was speaking to a fitness instructor who teaches one of the Health and Fitness classes we offer.   I went to her asking questions about how to train for a 5K and nutrition. She gave me invaluable information and advice. One of which deserves it's own blog entry soon. But in regards to the 5K she told me about doing interval training and running on different surfaces.  So yesterday since my husband was going to happy hour and someone had to pick up my son from the daycare I couldn't go to Kettlebell. I was disappointed but I instead I decided to do a run on my lunch break. The gym at school has a treadmill so I fired it up and started my run. I did pretty well I thought for my first time ever running on a treadmill. I've walked on treadmills before but never did a sustained run. I r

Never say Never....

Image
We've all heard the saying "never say never".  I use the word never a lot. As in I'll never run a mile, I'll never like oatmeal and I'll never be a size 4. Well the latter might be true. LOL But one thing about saying never is that you limit yourself.   When you start putting restrictions on your ability you won't even try to conquer whatever it is you say you'll never do, be, try. For me it was a lesson I learned just in the last week. I never in my life thought I'd like oatmeal. Ever since I was a little kid I hated the stuff. Just something about soggy oats just didn't appeal to me. Neither did grits, cream of wheat, not even rice pudding. It seemed unnatural. But getting on this health kick everywhere I turned oatmeal was being shoved in my face. I was tempted a time or two to try it but couldn't get it down my throat. Then one day last week I was mixing up some for my son, who happens to love oatmeal, and like all good mommies do I

What I did on my Spring Break....

Image
So you remember those days in elementary school when you got up in front of class and told everyone what you did for your summer vacation. Well I'm going to tell you what I did on my spring break. I'm fortunate that I work at a community college that actually gives employers the week off along with the students. Believe me I really appreciate this perk along with the two weeks off during Christmas.   Anyway so I had a week off to do whatever I pleased and what did I do you ask? Well I worked out of course!  I did all the things I wish I could do if I wasn't stuck in a office all day long. I'm trying to remember what I did on Monday but for some reason it's not coming to me.  But I know it was a tough and grueling work out!  LOL  This is why I need to write down my workouts. On Tuesday I did Spinning at LA Fitness! Okay technically this picture was taken on Thursday but I had no camera man with me on Tuesday This was so much fun. I pedaled 15 miles! I was

Success and Motivation

I find that success fuels my motivation to continue working out. It's hard to stay motivated when you're working out, especially when you don't see any results. But you have to push through an keep going. For me I have my husband who cheers me on and pushes me to keep going and don't give up.  But I always have another cheerleader which is my two year old. I just have to share this story.  When I'm working out my son is usually playing with his toys but every once in a while he'll turn to me and say "Go momma Go!!" It is the cutest thing and how could you not want to work harder with a cute little cheerleader like that cheering you on.  LOL Well thanks to my two cheerleaders I didn't give up and I have finally reached one of my goals! I am finally down to my pre-baby weight.  Since last May I have lost 20 pounds. I'm so proud of myself. I didn't think it would ever happen. But it doesn't stop here I still have 15 more pounds to go to

60 Day Check In!

Image
Can you believe it's March already?  So we are 60 days into the New Year. How many of you included losing weight and getting fit into your New Years resolution list? How are you doing so far? Are you still going strong?  Did you start and stop after the first couple weeks, did you never begin? Well if you're in the latter group then it's not too late to to start today. Last year I was of course one of those people who said I was going to start working out and lose weight.  I did a little here and there but it really wasn't until late May that I got serious about it. That was a whole five months into the new year. So it's never too late to start is the moral of this story. Fitness is a journey of a thousand miles. All you have to do is take that first step.  Nothing is too small. Even if it's a walk around your office during your lunch break, or a walk around the block after dinner tonight.  It's something more than you did yesterday right? Those of you th
