Work smarter not harder!

Image
Ok so anyone who knows me personally know that I'm a lazy bum. I'll admit it. I'm always looking for the easy way out of any situation. I was the second oldest out of  seven kids so that left 5 brothers and sisters to do my bidding growing up. Whenever I didn't want to  do something I could call one of them to do it for me and they'd have to because I was older. Sorry guys! LOL It wasn't until I got into the workforce that I learned there was an actual saying behind this mentality. It's called "Work smarter not harder". What a great concept,  I thought the first time I heard it. Of course the person who said it was passing the work they were supposed to be doing on to me but hey that's neither here or there.  I was learning something valuable. So how does this correlate to fitness? Well let me explain.  One thing about lazy people is that we're very creative when  it come to getting things done or in this case getting out of getting thing

I'm a slave....

...to my hair. I hang my head in shame. Since I began my quest to be fit and fab in 2011 I've exercised 4-5 sometimes 6 times in one week. Some days I worked out twice. I have never been more prouder of myself. I've felt good and I've been eating better. My digestive system seems to be functioning better. I no longer get painful bloating that I used to get daily that left me looking like I was 5 months pregnant. My body is getting more toned and I'm 3 pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight! That means I've lost a total of 17 pounds in the last 6 months. Go me! But then something happened this weekend that put a halt to all exercise. I got my hair done. Now for those of you not familiar to the black experience of getting your hair relaxed/straightened  let me walk you through it. First you call up your hairdresser and ask if she has any spots. Of course she'll tell you yes and gives you a time to come in only to find that she has about 4 other clients sitting

Eating Right....

So I found that eating right can be so difficult. Which shouldn't be so surprising because if it was easy everyone would be doing it. But you'd think the food companies would want us all to eat right and live long prosperous lives instead of manufacturing a bunch of food with no nutritional value and potentially harmful additives.  I mean if we're all dead, who's going to eat the food? Let's take Doritos for example. No doubt there are million of these cheesy tortilla chips being gobbled tonight as people watch the Super Bowl. I couldn't help but share a little tidbit about this snack. I was at a meeting on Friday at work where we were given lunch. I opened my lunch box and found a bag of Doritos in there to my horror. I wanted to trade them for something else and found an abandoned bag of Kettle Chips. So I flipped it over and read the ingredient list. There was three things listed. Potato, vegetable oil and sea salt.  I flipped over the bag of Dorit

TRX!

I meant to write this up since Monday but I needed a few days to recover from my TRX workout.  Yes boys and girls it was that rough. The workout I was initially was supposed to do was a kettlebell and TRX mix but because so many people showed up for class we all couldn't get on the TRX straps. But I asked one of the instructors if I could try out a couple moves and she happily obliged. Next thing I knew I was doing a full body work out.  I did shoulders biceps, triceps, legs and buns and back.  And every single one of those muscles still hurt!  but I loved every minute of it. I can see why athletes use this type of training. You work deep muscles that simple lunges and squats just can't get too.  I've done lots of butt exercises in my time but nothing has ever left my glutes this sore.  I'm going to have to find a way to get to the TRX conditioning class during the week!  I got to say again I love the Fitness Fusion Yoga Studio I go to. It's a little expensive but i
