Atlanta Here I Come!

Yes ANOTHER UPDATE! I told you it wouldn't be months until my next one! I have had so much going on and wanted to share it!  One of which is Black Girls Run!  The organization has been growing by leaps and bounds in just over the last year.  One of my goals this year was to run a 5K race every month.  And let me tell you if it wasn't for this running group I would have probably failed this task.  They are a very motivating group. They even got me to get up at 4am to volunteer help set up a race. Mind you my pure motivation was the fact that volunteers got to run the race for free  LOL!   But it was interesting to see how a race is pulled together, at least the preparation the day of.  Lots of work!

So far I've done well with my 5K a month challenge. There was a month or two where I skipped one but made up for it by doing 2 races the next month!  So I am on track!  I've even already completed my race for September!  Which by far was the most challenging race because of the hills.

But that was only preparation for my first 10K race ever! For you laymen out there a 10K race is 6.2 miles. Not only will this be my first 10K, this will be my first race out of the state of Florida.  I will attending the Drive to End Hunger presented by BGR! and the AARP.

This is going to be an event of EPIC proportions!!  Besides just the race  there will be a mixer, a conference filled with workshops, wellness sessions such as yoga for runners, beauty sessions  and honor dinner. I did say epic right??  Also the race is co-ed and open to anyone who wants to run!  After the race is the after party!! Complete with the many sponsors and vendors. My second goal besides trying to run the race under 1 hour is trying not to come home broke from buying race/running gear!!

I just know it's going to be a fun event and in addition I'm helping out those who need it.  Part of the race is to raise awareness for the "Race to Stamp out Hunger" around the country.

According to the Black Girls Run site hunger is a HUGE issue in our community,
“Black Girls RUN! Drive to End Hunger is your chance to help tackle food insecurity in a different way. Black Girls RUN and AARP! will host the inaugural Black Girls RUN!/Drive to End Hunger 5K/10K Race Weekend in Atlanta, Georgia, September 14-16, 2012. The event will bring greater awareness to the nationwide efforts of organizations’ Black Girls RUN! and AARP to fight obesity and hunger respectively.
While food insecurity plagues the United States, our country is also waging war against the highest obesity rates our nation has ever seen. Black Girls RUN! and AARP believes that everyone deserves the right to have healthy, nutritional food available at all times. Leading up to the race, Black Girls RUN! and AARP will collect donations from participants, volunteers and the public. The organizations will work to collect 100,000 pounds of food to be donated to Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless in Atlanta.”
A great cause and great fun, how could I resist???  I couldn't really and the same with the other almost 3000 people who registered for this race!  The 5K race is sold out and the 10K is very close to getting there .  If you're going to be out there let me know!  Leave me a comment. If you see me in ATL don't be shy, come say hi!!
